Samoa is an archipelago of nine islands at the center of south-west Pacific island groups. The name Samoa, from 'Sa' (sacred) and 'Moa' (center) means 'Sacred Center of the Universe'.

Trivia

  • Samoa (formerly Western Somoa) joined the Commonwealth in 1970. In 1974, 1978 they competed under the name Western Samoa.
  • The country made its Commonwealth Games debut in 1974 and have only missed the 1986 edition since that time.
  • Boxing and weightlifting medals were the highlight of their inaugural Games in Christchurch.
