The Winter Paralympic Games is an international multi-sport event held every four years (same as Olympic years) for disabled athletes, competing in snow and ice sports. There is also a summer version of the Paralympic Games.

The precursor to the Paralympic Games was an event organized in 1948 for Second World War veterans with spinal injuries. Seventy years on, the Paralympics is an integral part of the Olympic Games program, being hosted in the same city as the able-bodied Winter Olympic Games, and a short time afterwards.
