The number of Olympic Games sports has changed over time, from nine at the first Olympic Games in 1896, to 33 to be contested at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, with many more sports keen to get onto this exclusive list.

The Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) is composed of the international sport federations that are part of the Summer Olympic Program - the same sports as the current Olympic sport list.

In addition to this list of official sports federations, there is the Association of IOC Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF), which lists sports recognized by the IOC but not currently in the Olympic sporting program. For a sport to become an Olympic sport, its respective international sport federation must first be recognized by the International Olympic Committee. So this list is of sports that could possibly be added to the Olympic program in the future.

List of IOC Recognized International Sports

Some of these sports are set to be included in the 2024 and 2028 Olympics, and others have been part of the Olympics in the past.
