Ring Tilting is a form of jousting in which the horseman rides at full gallop and inserts his lance through small metal rings. Quintain was a similar sport, in which the rider attempts to hit a stationary object, such as a shield or manniquin on a pole.

These sports were often used as training for jousting.

Currently, Quintain is an extinct sport and it has been that way for over three centuries, except for occasional reenactments, usually during medieval festivals. There were demonstrations of quintain at the 1960 Rome Olympics.
