The aerobic fitness test which is commonly called the beep test, is known by a few different names around the world. Irrespective of the name, the test procedure is essentially the same (see beep test variations).

In English, the test has been variously described as the beep or bleep test, multi-stage fitness test, MSFT, MST, 20 meter shuttle run test, yo-yo endurance test, PACER and Aero tests. Some people incorrectly call it the yo-yo test, which is a different test.

In our poll asking What do you call it? The 'Beep Test' was the most common answer (50%). This is the name for the test in the USA and Australia, which account for a large number of this website's visitors too. In the UK, they call it the 'Bleep Test' (20%). In the USA it is also sometimes called the PACER Test (10%).

The name for the test differs in other languages. In French it is called the 'Test de Luc-Léger', after the name of the French Canadian who first described the test. Looking at the Wikipedia pages for the test in other languages, there are a few other names used to describe the test.
