The cheek skinfold site is also sometimes known as the malar site. It is one of the less common locations used for the assessment of body fat using skinfold calipers, and is not routinely used in the assessment of athletes. A few different descriptions of cheek locations for taking skinfolds have been found, which may only result in small differences in results. Description 1:

  • Horizontal fold beneath the right temple at the level of the nostrils.

Description 2:

  • Immediately beneath the arcus zygomaticus at the vertical line through the lateral margin of the orbita.

  • Horizontal fold raised at the midpoint of the line connecting the targus (cartilaginous projection anterior to the external opening of the ear) and the nostrils.

Description 4:

  • Skinfold over the lateral malar eminence.
