Assessment Tests

Recruits must undertake an extensive four-hour physical assessment. They must reach 9.6 in the shuttle run test. The assessment also includes moving heavy equipment, operating hard to handle hoses, and rescuing a 70kg mannequin, all while wearing and carrying standard fire fighting gear.

Another test involves moving through a tunnel, negotiating obstacles, while wearing breathing apparatus with a blacked out face mask to blind them. Other tests assess height and confined spaces phobias.
