The United States Coast Guard do not have a standardized fitness test assessment, though many units or specializations perform a Physical Fitness Test (PFT). See also testing procedures for the US Navy, US Marines and Navy Seals.

A common PFT includes the following

  • Bent-Knee Sit Ups - measures abdominal muscular endurance.
  • Push-Ups - measures the muscular endurance of the upper body.
  • 1.5 mile run — measures your full body endurance.
  • Swim - measures your ability to swim. Swimming on your back is not permitted.

The final test a U.S. Coast Guard airman must pass to become an Aviation Survival Technician (AST) is the Multi - which is short for Three-Man Multiple Rescue Scenario.
