The Copa América is the international championships contested among national teams from South America. Argentina is one of the 10 CONMEBOL nations and is a regular participant in the tournament. Argentina played in the very first tournament in 1916.

Argentina have won the tournament a record 16 times (next is Uruguay with 15)

Winning years: 1921, 1925, 1927, 1929, 1937, 1941, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1955, 1957, 1959-A, 1991, 1993, 2021, 2024.

In 2024, Argentina triumphed over Canada in the semi-final to secure their spot in the final match. Facing Colombia, the game remained deadlocked at 0-0 after regulation time. However, a decisive goal by Lautaro Martinez during extra time clinched a 1-0 victory for Argentina, marking their second consecutive championship win.

  • Argentina were the first (and so far only) team to win three consecutive titles, winning the championships in 1945, 1946 and 1947.
  • In 1942 Argentina beat Ecuador 12–0, the 12-goal difference is the widest ever in Copa América history.
