Alpine skiing (also sometimes referred to as downhill skiing), is a type of skiing in which participants slide down a snow-covered hill using skis with fixed bindings.

• Types — there are many competitive types of downhill skiing. The events range from technical events with tight turns (Slalom and Giant Slalom), increasing in speed with less turns (Super Giant Slalom and Downhill). The ultimate in speed is the Speed Skiing event. Other alpine skiing disciplines include the freestyle skiing events (moguls, aerials, halfpipe, and ski cross).
